Queer Healing
Tender, Radical Care for the LGBTQIA+ Soul
What We Mean by Queer Healing
Queer healing is not a trend, a buzzword, or a checkbox. It’s a way of living, feeling, and reclaiming what was taken or never offered. At Velvet & Vine, queer healing means tending to your wounds with dignity, re-learning safety on your own terms, and building a life that reflects who you are at your core.
We are a practice rooted in trauma-informed, liberation-centered, and neurodivergent-affirming care for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Whether you’re holding grief, searching for clarity, exploring your identity, or feeling overwhelmed by the weight of being alive in a world that demands performance. We offer more than just therapy. We offer a place to rest, to rise, to remember.
From individual therapy to somatic wellness, we are here to walk beside you.
What Is Queer Healing?
Queer healing is the ongoing, layered process of reclaiming safety, connection, pleasure, and worth in a world that often denies these things to LGBTQIA+ people. Our approach is holistic, relational, and deeply rooted in liberation.
We support clients who are:
Healing from family, spiritual, or cultural trauma
Navigating the impacts of political or institutional violence
Reclaiming safety in neurodivergent or gender-expansive bodies
Exploring identity, boundaries, or new forms of relationship
Grieving, rebuilding, or seeking softness after rupture
At Velvet & Vine, you will never be asked to make yourself smaller to receive care. Instead, we invite your complexity, your pace, your contradictions.

Queer Healing for Trauma, PTSD, and C-PTSD
Many LGBTQIA+ people carry trauma that has never been named, let alone held with compassion. We understand trauma not just as the events that overwhelmed you, but as what you lost access to: agency, trust, connection, breath.
We work with both post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma (C-PTSD), especially for clients who have experienced:
Religious or cultural shame
Family rejection and emotional neglect
Bullying or targeted harassment
Medical trauma or non-consensual treatment
Chronic hypervigilance as a survival strategy
Systemic harm (e.g., transphobic legislation, policing, housing insecurity)
Our trauma-informed therapy draws from somatic practices, narrative work, parts-based models, and polyvagal theory. Healing begins with co-regulation, not interrogation. It begins with feeling safe enough to feel again.
Our trauma recovery services draw from many sources, such as somatic practices, acceptance & commitment therapy, attachment models, and emotionally focused work.
Neurodivergent-Affirming Queer Healing
Queer and neurodivergent? You belong here—in all your difference, your texture, your rhythm.
Our approach affirms autistic, ADHD, and sensory experiences. We do not treat neurodivergence as something to cure. Instead, we adapt care to be responsive to your brain and body.
That means:
Flexible session pacing and structure
Co-created communication norms
Permission to stim, move, fidget, or unmask
Concrete support with executive function
Sensory-aware environments (both in-person and virtual)
Individual Therapy for LGBTQIA+ Communities
Individual therapy is a foundational offering at Velvet & Vine. Our licensed queer and trans clinicians offer weekly and biweekly sessions, both virtually and in-person.
In this space, you do not have to perform. You don’t need to translate your experience into something palatable. Your grief, anger, ambivalence, numbness, and longing are welcome here.
Our individual therapy often supports:
Identity exploration and gender transition
Navigating burnout, anxiety, or depression
Rebuilding trust after spiritual, relational, or systemic betrayal
Reclaiming pleasure, creativity, and emotional expression
Life transitions, grief, and existential heaviness
You can book a consultation to begin with the therapist who feels right for you.
Gender-Affirming Coordination of Care & Letters of Support
We offer documentation and coordination support for trans and nonbinary clients seeking:
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Gender-affirming surgeries
Legal name and gender marker changes
FMLA or workplace accommodations
Referrals to affirming providers (e.g., surgeons, primary care, vocal coaches)
All letters are provided using an informed consent model: you do not need to “prove” your gender to receive support. We believe in access, autonomy, and dignity.
You can read more about our gender identity and exploration services, or you can bring your questions to your free consultation.

FAQs
Do I need a diagnosis to work with you?
No. We welcome you with or without a formal diagnosis. If you’re paying out of pocket, a diagnosis is not required. However, if you plan to use insurance, whether in-network or out-of-network, a diagnosis is necessary for coverage purposes. Either way, our care is grounded in your lived experience, not just clinical labels.
Do you offer virtual services?
Yes. All therapy and most wellness sessions are available online.
What if I’m questioning my identity or just beginning this work?
That’s perfect. We meet you wherever you are with no rush, no pressure, no performance.
Are you accessible for neurodivergent and disabled folks?
Yes. Our services are designed with sensory and cognitive access in mind. We are also happy to discuss specific needs prior to scheduling.
Can I combine therapy with somatic or ritual-based offerings?
Yes. Many of our clients find that combining talk therapy with somatic practices or ritual healing deepens their progress. You are welcome to work with multiple practitioners across different modalities and types of therapy to support your full experience.
Is there support for navigating family conflict or chosen family dynamics?
Absolutely. We support clients navigating family of origin harm, estrangement, and the building of chosen family. Our therapists are experienced in helping you set boundaries, process grief, and create relationships rooted in consent and care.
Do you offer support for queer parents or those exploring parenting?
Yes. We work with queer, trans, and nonbinary parents, whether you’re actively parenting, navigating fertility, co-parenting, or healing your own childhood experiences. Our space honors the complexity and beauty of queer family-making.
